Holding

A Holding is any individual investment that forms part of an investment portfolio. It can be a stock, ETF, bond, mutual fund, or another type of asset.

For example, if an investor owns shares of Apple, an MSCI World ETF, and a government bond, each of these investments is considered a separate holding. Together, they make up the overall portfolio.

Reviewing portfolio holdings helps investors understand their diversification, risk exposure, and allocation across different asset classes and regions.
